'Beowulf' (Opera at Chilmark)
Beowulf is an Opera at Chilmark production in collaboration with Cantata Dramatica.
Cantata Dramatica commissioned this well known story of monsters, a fiery dragon, and a Swedish hero with his band of (not always) fearless seamen, in 2015. The fast-paced narrative has also been enhanced to encompass the women's point of view and the consequence is a moving, lyrical and emotional three act opera with an evocative sound world from Louis Mander, with whom we first worked on Cantata Eliensis.
The performance will begin with a short introductory talk at 5 pm and will end at around 8pm. There is a long picnicking interval in the attractive courtyard next to the large barn at Cleeves Farm which is turned into an opera house for the occasion.

'The Building of Ely Cathedral' (Cantata Eliensis)
By kind permission of the Dean and Chapter, we are performing our Cantata Eliensis as part of the St Etheldreda Festival.
This is a three act telling of the story of Ely Cathedral itself, with music from three different composers, Anna Krause, Toby Young and Louis Mander.
The libretto has been derived from the Liber Eliensis, written by the monks in 1173 to record all the adventures and misadventures that led to the building of this truly great "Cathedral of the Fens". The performance will take place in the Lady Chapel and, as at Grantham in 2014, Kate Billimore will conduct.
Through our collaboration with Dr Charlie Rozier, various academics learned in Anglo Saxon history will be giving free public lectures in the Cathedral Eduction Centre during the afternoon before the concert.

The performance will start at 6 pm and will be preceded by a pre-concert talk at 5.30 pm. Audience members are welcome to arrive from 5 pm onwards.
